Credit timing matters with indexed universal life (IUL) With their complex policy features and crediting rates, IUL products can be difficult to explain. Symetra calculates index credits based on the beginning value of the index segment to prevent index returns from being reduced by policy charges. Our flyer highlights the effect this timing can have over the duration of the policy. Symetra’s IUL products are designed to provide both attractive performance features and straightforward crediting expense factors. Our guiding principles of Value, Transparency and Sustainability (VTS) are at the core of everything we do. |

A flexible planning solution for future income with life insurance Most people understand that the main purpose of life insurance is to provide death benefit protection. But they may not have considered that accessing the policy’s cash value can add a source of supplemental income in retirement. Even if clients are maximizing their contributions to other income sources, such as 401(k)s, IRAs and annuities, they may not have enough savings to maintain their desired standard of living in retirement. Our Supplemental Income Plan flyer and sample illustration highlight how life insurance may help clients avoid potential retirement income shortfalls. |

1Withdrawals and loans may reduce or eliminate the death benefit payable to beneficiaries. In general, policy loans are charged interest; they are usually not taxable. If a policy lapses or is surrendered, the loan becomes immediately taxable to the extent of the gain in the policy. Withdrawals are taxable only when your clients take more money out of the policy than was paid in premiums. If the policy becomes a Modified Endowment Contract (MEC), less advantageous tax provisions apply. The tax treatment of a loan with a net charge of zero is unclear and could be adverse to the policyowner.
2Refer to LIM-1439/M for complete details.
3Subject to Symetra approval. A new Symetra Protector or Accumulator IUL policy will be issued for approved cases.
